What are Implant Dentures?

Instead of using the gums for stability, the implant denture uses dental implants to secure the overdentures or fixed
dentures. They come in both fixed and semi-removable forms, so Dr. Ghorbani can personalize your treatment to you!

What are my Options for Implant Dentures?

Semi-Removable Implant
Denture (Overdenture)

A Semi-Removable Overdenture uses two to four implants to anchor the denture in place. The overdenture can snap in
and out, providing greater stability than the conventional removable dentures.

Procedure

  1. Dr. Ghorbani will begin by placing two screw-like dental implants into your lower arch in place of the missing tooth.
  2. A temporary denture will be provided for you to wear for a few months to avoid pressure on the new implants as they fuse into the jawbone and become viable to support a denture.
  3. Collars will be placed over each implant to prepare the gums.
  4. After a couple weeks, abutments will replace the collars and an impression of your mouth will be taken so that the final denture can be fabricated.
  5. At your final appointment, a metal bar will be attached to the abutments to secure the denture framework.
  6. The replacement teeth are fitted into the framework, the bar is secured, and your overdentures are ready for everyday use.

Caring for your Overdenture

Removable dentures are very easy to clean and the denture as well as the attachment points inside the mouth should be carefully and thoroughly cleaned each night. In the future, Dr. Ghorbani may have to replace the bar to ensure your denture retains its proper fit in mouth.

Non-Removable Fixed Denture (Permanent)

A permanent fixed denture, also known as the All on 4, uses a minimum of 4 implants to hold the denture in place. They
are screwed in to allow for the ultimate level of stability in the mouth.

Procedure

  1. Digital impressions of your mouth are taken along with intra oral pictures and a Cone Beam CT scan. The case is then sent to our lab to prepare for surgery day. All expectations of shape, color, fit, and size of the prosthesis is carefully reviewed with the patient
  2. Day of surgery: a team of experts are present to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. If complete general sedation is preferred, an anesthesiologist will be provided. The surgery is performed and maximum number of implants are placed based on patients jaw bone. A temporary set of teeth are provided to you while you heal in the next few months
  3. A final Porcelain Denture is provided upon complete healing.

Procedure

Cleaning your fixed implant denture regularly with proper hygiene practices is important to prevent tartar buildup just like your natural teeth!

Implant Dentures

Essentially, a removable denture is easy for you to take out, while a fixed denture can only be removed at the dental office.

Implant-supported dentures feel the most like natural teeth.

To be answered by the client.

The good news is that implant-supported dentures are highly successful, so you will most likely not experience any complications.

When implant-supported dentures are correctly cared for, and the jawbone is kept healthy through proper nutrition and use, it can last anywhere from 10-20 years or longer.
